San Jacinto Battleground & Museum

18 Minutes That Changed the World

One of the most important events in American history was the Battle of San Jacinto, where the Texian army shouted, “Remember the Alamo!” and defeated Santa Anna’s army in 18 minutes. This battle was the deciding factor in Texas’s fight for independence. The San Jacinto Monument, a 30-minute drive from League City, is the tallest masonry column in the world—towering at 570 feet—and pays tribute to that important day in history. The monument houses a museum, and visitors can also ride an elevator to the top for sweeping views of the Houston Ship Channel and the fields were the Battle of San Jacinto was fought and won.

Lone Star Flight Museum

Experience the wonder of flight in a warbird ride and get hands-on in the high-tech Aviation Learning Center and Flight Academy.

Explore nearly two dozen historic aircraft, including a B-25 Mitchell—the aircraft made famous for its role in the Doolittle Raid during WWII—and an SBD Dauntless, the aircraft responsible for sinking four Japanese carriers at the Battle of Midway. The museum also has flight simulators, a Texas Aviation Hall of Fame, and more.
